QOTD

"This is a big embarrassment for Prime Minister Maliki because he was in that area two days before the incident, telling his people that we are the masters in our country..."

In a district of Iraq that had completely, unreservedly, been handed over to Iraqi security forces.

Then some  US Special Forces went in and killed Maliki's cousin and some others.

Putting a bit of strain on the "Status of Forces" agreement negotiations.

Your Daily Dose of Gloom

In the WaPo, yet.

Do remember, though, the Depression generated some great music and art, and even the invention of the comic book.

Keep Fighting, Al

Even though it looks bad at the moment.

You'd think a state that elected Jesse Ventura, who advocated the legalization of prostitution in his Playboy interview, would've taken Al's satire in that magazine in stride.

Maybe Coleman has some appeal I can't fathom.

Another Vandalism link

RogerStone? Some people can't call up the TPM page referred to in the previous post, so here's the AP story at Yahoo, with picures of the graffiti-painted cars.

Republican Ratf*ck of the Day

Sorry, but Hillary dead-enders did not do this.

Has anybody been keeping tabs on Roger Stone?  It smells like his style.

A Hat Full of Cash

MrHatfill To Steven Hatfill, the mysterious, Rhodesia-connected US bioweapons expert the Feds suspected of mailing anthrax (and whom they undeniably harrassed without arresting...one of their SUVs actually ran over his foot in the course of tailing the guy).

He sued, the Feds settled.

$5.8M of your kids's money, to be exact.

He seemed a likely culprit to me. But what do I know.

A TPM commenter reminds us of some of the strange circumstances:

There are any number of interesting things about these attacks, none of which seem to attract any attention:

The targets were all journalists and prominent Democrats (two of which were credited with holding up the PATRIOT act))

The attacks were sent to tragets in New York, DC, and Florida (the hanging chad state)

The first round of attacks were postmarked 18 September, 2001, meaning that the preparation of the material must have begun before 8 September, 2001

The strain used was traceable to the US military

The preparation took place in the northeastern US

...and so on. If you aren't suspicious by this point, there's something wrong with your ability to put two and two together.

I'm not in the MIHOP camp, but I suspect there's been much more exploitation and manipulation of fear than has yet come to light.

Getting Closer

...to the day when CGI attack ads smear candidates by depicting them, apparently in reality, misbehave.

These cyberwags simply replace dancers's heads with John McCain's in this Madonna video, to comic effect, but it's well done -- McCain even has a line that rhymes with Madge's lyric!

Just get ready for Obama back-slapping Huey Newton and "Cinque," the ringleader of the SLA gang that kidnapped Patty Hearst.

Go Al

Franken, not Gore.

He's shaved Coleman's lead to two points, and is pitch-perfect in this interview.

What's funny is that Minnesotans are going to be drowning in old Franken humor, the most offensive the Coleman campaign can find, for the next few months.

I wonder if they'll use the flapping genitals line from this.

What the Hell?!

This cellphone stunt better be a trick, or I'm throwing mine away.
